Home Office Decorating

These days, it's not uncommon for many homes to have a home office. The home office is just as much in need of decorating as any other room.  In this article, we will explore home office decorating.

If you are planning to decorate your home office, your first concern may be cost.  While an office is a functional space, it can be hard to justify spending allot of money on decorating a home office.  Luckily, you don't need to spend a ton of money - a little bit of creativity will go a long way in decorating your home office.

Another common problem with decorating a home office comes from simple lack of space.  Many of us have a home office set up as an afterthought.  Home offices are sometimes crammed into small rooms or even retrofitted closets where space is at a premium.  Since we are redecorating and not remodeling, you will need to work with what space you have.  Whatever your home office setup might be, you can decorate it nicely and make it a great place to relax and get some work done.

Home Office Decorating Ideas

You should try to plan out your ideas for decorating your home office in advance.  Once you have an idea of the look and style you are after, jot down some notes on furniture placement, colors and other ideas.

Speaking of color, many people find that choosing a calming color for their home office makes the work environment more relaxing.  Likewise, a vibrant and bright color choice will bring energy to the room.  Keep this in mind when choosing a color.  You can pick a color that is uniquely suited to your needs.

A home office doesn't need much in the way of decoration.  Aside from paint, stencils make nice accents when used on the walls.  Wallpaper can also provide a nice effect.  You can elect to use artwork for the walls to dress them up as well.

Home Office Furniture

Furniture for your home office will depend on your needs.  Typically, a home office has a desk and place for your computer.  You may also require filing cabinets or other special furniture depending on what type of work you do.  Just remember not to scrimp on the organizational helpers like filing cabinets and desk space.  You will want to make sure you have enough room to organize your office with enough space for all of your things.

If you are on a budget, you can usually get a great deal on a used desk by looking in your local classifieds.  Desks can be very expensive to buy at retail, but sell for cheap when you buy them from someone who needs to make room in their house.  Another budget stretcher would be to use old milk crates as file holders.  They are sturdy, readily available and a perfect size for most filing.

Personal Touches

Once you have your office functional, it's time to think about adding a few personal touches to inspire you while you work.  Family pictures, your favorite plant or anything else that gives you a sense of peace would make a nice addition to your home office.  Don't forget the music!  Assuming you like to listen to music while you work, you will want to remember to equip your home office with a radio or cd player.

I hope that these tips give you some ideas for decorating your home office.  A home office gets allot of use and it's worth it to take the time to make your workspace nice.
